Kintoki Festival: May 5th at Sengokuhara/Kintoki Shrine

May 5th in Japan is known as "Children's Day", and it is also the day on which the Kintoki festival is held to celebrate the Japanese folk hero "Kintaro". His full name was Kintoki Sakata, but as a child he was known simply as Kintaro.

Ohiradai Hot Spring Festival: April 16th and 17th in Ohiradai

Held during the cherry blossom season, this festival is held to give thanks for the clean and plentiful hot springs of Hakone. Floats and portable shrines are carried through the town to celebrate.

Yudate Shishimai (Lion Dance): March 27th at Sengokuhara Suwa Shrine

Originating in the Edo era, the Yudate Shishimai (Lion Dance) attracts many visitors every year. During the ceremony, hot water is splashed onto the heads of onlookers in order to bless them and protect them from illness in the coming year.
